VRCS Goals
Classroom Environment
We will focus on building community of cultural responsiveness by having students actively engage in classroom activities that incorporate diverse perspectives (eg. embracing all cultures and genders, using elders and cultural bearers, having jr. high students organize and lead activities and awareness campaigns).
School-wide Climate and Culture
We will focus on developing a sense of community and safety by establishing school wide norms(focused on SEL) for expectations and behavior (PBIS Behaviour Matrix)
Academic Instruction
We will review and reset high yield and effective teaching practices as these support the social emotional well being and subsequently the academic achievement of our students. Specifically, we will develop greater staff capacity with the Big 3(co-constructing criteria, descriptive feedback, evidence of learning) to better increase students interaction with learning goals/criteria and feedback. This will be supported by teachers' understanding of building the emotional stamina needed for rigorous learning.
